PONO create sonic musical collages blending punk, folk, blues, and electronika. Formed on August 14, 1998, PONO make music that steps slightly outside of popular musical constructs while still remaining fairly accessible. The players vary as does the structure and instrumentation of their music, however fierce eclecticism, originality, intensity, wit, politics, and respect for their audiences' intelligence are always characteristics that find their way into Pono's recordings as well as their live performances. There are three PONO records: Mao Tse-tung's Bar Mitzvah was 13 years, 13 months and 13 days before Gandhi's Circumcision (1999), Aisle 3 (2001), and Indie Rock to the Blues (2004). |
